China's Soft Power in Southeast Europe

China’s growing presence in Southeast Europe hasn’t remained unnoticed and is causing an intense debate on the nature of its clout.

By using a mixture of various soft power tools, China seeks to strengthen its influence in SEE countries. Why is China more readily accepted in the Balkans than in other parts of Europe? Could it be that China’s soft power is interwoven with its economic statecraft and, at the same time, expectations in Southeast Europe for Chinese investment? And how does China’s soft power impact the EU prospects of the Western Balkans?

These are issues addressed in the report on ‘China’s Soft Power in Southeast Europe’ by Plamen Tonchev. Please watch the video production on the main findings of the report.
