Beyond the MoU

Twelve essays on Greece, the European Union and the way ahead.

On August 20 Greece exited its third economic adjustment program since the beginning of the economic and debt crisis in 2009. It marks the end of almost a decade of strict fiscal surveillance. From now on, the country´s policy agenda is no longer driven by external demands. This also implies, that Greece and its European partners will need to develop a sustainable and inclusive growth strategy in order to pave the way for a sound recovery – all this against the backdrop of an unstable international environment.

The discussion on Greece´s future after the program exit is starting to gather momentum. In the workshop <link event greece-and-the-eu-in-2035-the-future-revisited external-link-internal-icon>“Greece and the EU in 2035 – The Future Revisited” we presented three potential future scenarios on how the country might develop.

Based on these three scenarios, the Friedrich-Ebert Stiftung Athens office and the European Academy Berlin invited twelve experts to share their thoughts on the future of Greece and the European Union and to discuss, what needs to be done to secure a sustainable future for the country in the long-run.

Their contributions are now available in the report "The future of Greece revisited", which you can download here
