On June 8, 2020 the SPD executive Committee adopted the following resolution. "Germany will hold the EU Council Presidency at a time of existential challenges for the European Union and its citizens. The economic and social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the continuing health threat posed by the virus, require a comprehensive and common European response.
